You have a website, but how does it compare to your competitors? Whose site has a bigger impact on users? And more importantly, who is getting the sale?
If your site has been static for a few years and hasn’t been updated by a professional web designer, it’s a good bet that you’re long overdue for a redesign.
Here’s the real issue; from the user’s perspective, websites that are not regularly redesigned and updated, even if they contain strong, useful content, appear out of date, even abandoned. A visitor to your website is going to decide to stay or leave your website in just a few seconds. If the design looks out of date, there is very little chance of that visitor staying at your site, because the design has convinced them that your site is not relevant.
The reason why is simple enough to understand; web design is constantly changing as are the tools designers use to create websites. Websites that haven’t been updated in several years look old, or worse, acts old. Does it take more than 10 seconds for your home page to load? Designers today know how to avoid that problem, and having that problem suggest to the user that the site has been abandoned by the owner.
What about the website navigation structure? A links laid out in an intuitive manor that’s natural for the user or does your site have a standard navigation bar across the top of the site?
What about search engine optimization? Has your site been optimized so that the content you spend so much time putting together can be found by users?
What about the general appearance of your website? Does it look old? Does it employ modern design elements like flash? The appearance of your website is important. It’s the first thing visitors see and it is ultimately what is going to make them stay or leave your site in the few seconds they will spend making the decision when they first hit your homepage.
In short; it is 2009, so why does your website look so 1995?
